« Dark Friend is a gigantic text, a collection of statements that Lucas Lejeune has gathered from an online forum, in which the users anonymously post their deepest secrets. The artist selected only sentences starting with «I’m» and ordered them according to their lengths, following a procedural method that characterizes his work, most particularly his conceptual poetry. The accumulation into a single text of anonymous thoughts, some of which are the expression of tortured feelings and dramatic experiences, creates a hybrid persona that, although fed by the succession of confessions of thousands of users, speaks to the readers with a single voice that unites the feeling of alienation and the existential questions of many. »
